Link Site 292 with Fishing Pond 48. May 2008
Date: 1st May 2008
Observers: Marion Vincent and Lesley Walton
Location: Field on River Soar Boundary
OS Ref: SK 59251334
Map Title: Site 292
Owners: Farnham Bridge Farm but fished by Wreake Angling Club
Although I knew this area we did not carry out a site viewing until May 2008. I could not remember a pond being there so I rang Gordon from the Wreake Angling Club as his name was on a notice at the entrance to the site. He told me that the pond had been created in 2006 for fishing and matches the one in Site 293 Oldershaws. Farnham Bridge Farm owns both sites and Gordon gave me his permission to go into Site 292 as long as I did not venture on the land beyond this, as the owner of the farm does not allow anyone near his buildings.

It is a lovely pond and this has been recorded as Pond 48 Link Pond. There was a good area of Marsh Bedstraw so it will be interesting to return to see how it develops into a wildlife site.
Young trees have been planted around the boundary of the field and that makes the Ash Trees 608, 609 and 610 very vulnerable. They do not make the criteria for Ancient Trees but they are still valuable due to their position on the boundary next to the Rothley Brook.
When a further visit was made later in the month Tree 609 had been cut back to the main trunks making all three trees very vulnerable.

This field was called Link in the old maps and was divided up to build the A6 By-pass. The piece of field by the old A6 is Site 309 Lost Corner (3)
